Starburst Foundation
About Starburst Foundation
In 1990 we set out to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish foundation, specifically to sponsor a child with a life threatening illness by the medium of a pantomime.
We staged the show in a school hall, with a total attendance audience of 200 people over three performances. We raised over £2000 which allowed us to adopt the wish through Make-A-Wish and allow the child to fulfil their life’s dream.
This was the spark that set the theatre company alive, we formed the Make-a-Wish drama society, which staged panto for the following 5 years, alongside several summer plays.
In 1995 we decided to break a way from Make-a-wish and we formed the drama society into Starburst theatre Company (STC). This allowed us to donate our profits to worthy causes of our choice not necessarily attached to Make-a-Wish. The goal for us was to become an independent charity in our own right, so as to afford the freedom and privilege of personal individual and more meaningful donations to the public in our local community. In the meantime we continued to sponsor wishes as before but also donated goods to other charitable causes.
Over the years we have been in a position to donate too many worthy and varied causes:
Make-a-Wish Foundation / Frimley Park Hospital / Frimley Park Children’s hospital / Frimley toy loan library / FSIDS / Leukaemia foundation / Cancer Research / Henry Tyndale School / Samuel Cody School / Rushmore youth centre / Naomi House / The Grange School / Connaught School / Phyllis Tuckwell Foundation / The knight Foundation / Saxon wood School / Oakfarm adults Centre / Ridgeway school.
We have donated in excess of £60,000 up till 2010 and plan to carry on increasing our donating capacity.
Starburst has grown from the 200 total attendance audience (1990) to over 1500 people attending our latest productions.
Starburst Theatre Company became a registered charity in 2006, but this led to some confusion as to what starburst theatre was, a charity, or a production company.
To resolve this and make us more efficient and defined, we have reformed the company structure to stream line our efforts and focus our disciplines.
We are now registered with companies house as "Starburst Foundation" (the umbrella body), then there will be three sub companies forming the directions of the company.

Starburst theatre company (STC)
Responsible for all production and shows performed and staged by starburst, which currently are the summer musicals and Christmas pantomimes.

Starburst charity (Starburst)
Running all charitable actions, reviewing and adopting wishes, arranging the procurement of the goods to be donated, facilitating the donation, fund raising and relevant Marketing.

Starburst Hire Company (SHC)
Running and managing all hire related issues, costume, props and technical equipment alongside production staff hire and advice.
The biggest strength that starburst foundation possess is its quality and dedication of its committed volunteers.
We are incredibly lucky that members of the community willingly give up and spend hours supporting us in a variety of ways.
Our volunteers run and support every aspect of the foundation, from stage to charity to hire departments, this also includes all the directors / trustees, who take no fee and often refuse their expense payments.
Without these kind offers of help and support Starburst Foundation would not be able to function efficiently and effectively, so a huge thank you to all that support us.
Starburst Foundation is a transparent company. Therefore all company accounts are available on request.
